Authoritarian In Chief

An open letter to my representatives in Congress...

I refer you to the article titled Bush Challenges Hundreds of Laws by Charlie Savage, published in The Boston Globe on April 30th.

That the President has acted repeatedly in bad faith, that he has violated the Constitution, that he has violated the law, and that Congress has failed to hold the executive branch accountable for the flagrant disregard for our democracy is a colossal failure of leadership.

So long as you are not actively working in a public and obvious way to remove this president from office and hold him accountable for his actions, I will hold you personally responsible for our government's continual slide into a state of authoritarian lawlessness.

You did not swear an oath to serve your political party, you swore an oath to uphold the Constitution. This isn't a partisan issue. Congress represents the people. If you no longer represent us, if you continually let slide the power of your office and our laws, if you do nothing in the face of creeping tyranny, what recourse have you left the people?
